In July, 1995 Apple introduced Open Transport, a collection of networking software which includes a new implementation of TCP/IP for Macintoshes. Some new Macintoshes are delivered with OpenTransport, and in the future it will be possible for most Macintosh systems to be upgraded to use it. Over time, Open Transport will replace the earlier MacTCP software (see the MacTCP help topic).
Fetch will call Open Transport directly if it is installed, provided that the Don’t make Open Transport calls preference is not checked. A message in the About Fetch... dialog box indicates whether Open Transport, MacTCP or KSP is currently being used.
